"Come sit down" - Hope

Hello Friend,
June came and went like a whirlwind and while I've sat reflecting on the last month and half, I realized that as of late, one of my greatest teachers has been two years old.
Almost every day, in the middle of whatever I’m doing, Hope will look up at me with her sweet little voice and say, “Come sit down.”
Oh the wisdom of this sweet babe!
She doesn’t know or care if the laundry is folded, an email is waiting, or dinner needs to be started. She isn’t keeping track of my to-do list or wondering how productive I’ve been that day.
She simply wants my presence.
More often than not, she’s reminding me of exactly what I need.
"Mama, come sit down."
These past several weeks have been wonderfully full.
Full of family, milestones, responsibilities, teaching, and all the beautiful little moments that make up a life. There have been days when I’ve found myself moving from one thing to the next without much space to pause and reflect. Maybe you’ve felt that in your own life too.
For a while, I thought I needed to create more space in my days. But what I’m beginning to realize is that perhaps the invitation isn’t always to find more time.
It’s to become more pliable within the time we already have.
To remain soft enough to accept the invitation to sit down.
To allow ourselves to feel the moments instead of hurrying through them. To gently disconnect from everything demanding our attention so we can reconnect with what has always deserved our presence.
Hope has been showing me what that looks like every single day.
It’s watching her become completely absorbed in a drawing she has created with no regard for anything else around her.
It’s hearing her joyfully grab her harmonica and tambourine when she sees musicians performing, inviting the rest of us to join in.
It’s watching her lie in the grass with her dad, looking up at the clouds as though there’s nowhere else in the world she’d rather be.
It’s seeing her trust me and the water enough to float peacefully on her back when we go swimming.
It’s the warmth of a hot coffee mug cradled between my hands before the house fully wakes.
It’s the comfort of a hot shower at the beginning or end of a long day.
These moments aren’t interruptions to my life.
They are my life.
And maybe that’s what God has been gently reminding me all along.
Not every lesson arrives through a sermon or a mountaintop experience.
Sometimes it comes through the voice of a little child saying,
“Come sit down.”
When reflecting upon the life of Christ, it has opened up my eyes to the lesson that Jesus often met people in ordinary moments.
Walking. Sharing meals. Sitting together.
He understood that presence has a way of transforming hearts.
As I’ve been reflecting on that, I’ve found myself returning to the words of Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Stillness isn’t always about finding an empty calendar. Sometimes it’s choosing to be fully present in the moment we’ve already been given.
As we move through these last weeks of summer, my prayer is that we would all remain soft enough to notice the invitations around us.
To linger a little longer.
To laugh a little louder.
To hold the ones we love a little closer.
And when someone we love says, “Come sit down”, may we remember that some of life’s holiest moments are waiting for us there.
If you’d like to slow down, breathe deeply, and move with intention together, I’d love to welcome you to one of my upcoming Slow Flow Yoga classes at Cana Vineyards & Winery.
The next one will be Saturday, July 18 at 9:30am.
A morning to pause, to breathe, and sit with me.
Whether we gather in class or simply meet here each month through these letters, thank you for allowing me to share a small piece of my heart with you.
With Love,
~ Rhonda Wilson ~

“And as we let our own light shine, we subconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
